Back in the Day: School Memories Scrapbook Ideas
1 August 2009
Author: Becky Cates
Recently I came across some old photos of me from when I was in elementary school. Just looking at the photos took me back to those carefree days and brought back some wonderful memories. I showed the photos to my daughter and she wanted to know all about what school was like “way back then”. Her questions helped me to realize how important it is for me to preserve my memories for my family and future generations. How much fun it will be to know that someday my grandchildren and even my great-grandchildren will look at my school memories scrapbook, read about what school was like for me, and compare their experiences to mine!
How about you?
Do you have some old photos in a box just waiting to have their story told? Start TODAY. It’s so easy to put it off and think you’ll write down your memories, someday…but that someday may never come if you don’t get started now!
Just in case you need a little push, here are some journaling prompts that will help you as you sort through photos from your school years:
- When and where did you go to school?
- What was a typical school day like for you?
- What were your favorite subjects?
- Who were your friends?
- Who was your favorite teacher and why?
- Who was your least favorite teacher and why?
- What games did you play at recess time?
- Did you ever get in trouble at school?
- How did your school shape you into who you are today?
Memorabilia:
While you are gathering your photos and documenting your school years, don’t forget to include any memorabilia, class photos, report cards, certificates, and school programs that you may have saved. Most of these items are probably NOT printed on materials that are archival safe, so take the time to spray them with an archival spray such as Archival Mist or make photo copies of the originals on acid-free paper to include in your scrapbook.
Enjoy your trip down memory lane and know that not only are you preserving these memories for you, but for all generations that will follow. Create your own school memories scrapbook pages, and be sure to share them in our gallery!
