I wanted something different from a wreath for my door. So here it is!
Instructions
STEP 1:
two types of ribbons will be needed. one is organza satin and the other is rat tail ribbon.
STEP 2:
Choose 4 colors of the Organza satin and 4 colors of the Rat tail ribbon
STEP 3:
Cut a yard and a half from each color and each type of ribbon to yield to 8 ribbons of a yard and a half each.
STEP 4:
Gather all ribbon in the middle and fold in half.
STEP 5:
Tie an overhand knot to make the door hanger loop. The size is up to you just make sure it can go over your doorknob. Pull each string one by one toward you to tighten up the knot. Do this for each of the strands.
STEP 6:
Once you have tightened the knot, get a 2 yd rat tail cord and tie a knot at the base of the knot. Using simple Macrame over hand knot, knot the loop all the way around to decorate the knot of strings or you can just keep it that way.
STEP 7:
Finish the macrame looping by using hot glue to secure the ending string.
STEP 8:
Add beads, trinkets, buttons and anything you like at different levels of each rat tail string.
In the middle string add a focal bead or anything you might like to be the focal point. This should be big enough to outshine the other trinkets and at least half way down the middle of the other strings.
STEP 9:
Make sure each bead or trinket is secure by knotting each item in place. For buttons it is easier to knot but for beads or trinkets it is easier if you use a jump ring and then tie it to the rat tail ribbon. Youu can also add trinkets to the satin ribbons if fo desired.
STEP 10:
To keep the ends from fraying at the end of the rat tail add a large crimp bead at the end or tie up the ends.
Add a bit of clear glue to secure(optional).
STEP 11:
As the final touch add a bow at the middle of the knot and embelish with a trinket in the midlle.
STEP 12:
Stand back and admire!
