A Spotted Canary Project by Nicole

1 December 2009

Christmas is the time to bring out the things we have that sparkle—and if you are in need of a little extra sparkle try adding some to your winter scarf this season. This scarf is so simple and fun and can be worn outside with your coat or inside to work or at a holiday party. It is versatile and stylish—be sure to make these as gifts for your friends too, that way they won’t be too jealous of yours!

Instructions

STEP 1:

Determine pattern for your wearable item. I drew a holly leaf onto white cardstock and then cut out the design with a retractable knife.

STEP 2:

Using the negative space in the piece you cut from rather than the piece that you cut out as a pattern, lay that onto your item you are going to embellish. Fill in the pattern with crystals as desired and heat set them.

STEP 3:

Using a timer or counting to 30 for each crystal is recommended when placing them. If you heat them too long they will not stick as the glue will have absorbed into the fabric and will no longer affix the crystal.

STEP 4:

I found using the glass mat under the fabric as a great tool when affixing the crystals. If you do this on an ironing board or something softer your crystals take longer to adhere than the recommended 30 seconds per crystal. I also used a hot pad to change out the tip sizes for the Hot Fix Crystal Tool. Be careful that tip gets very hot.
