A good friend of mine buys old wool sweaters from Goodwill and washes them then makes them into the cutest little stuffed animals, cool mittens and other prjects.  It seems to be pretty easy, and she comes up with her own patterns. She also needlefelts patterns on the mittens. Have you ever tried doing this with your old sweathers??

I haven't yet but I am hoping to do some felting projects for Christmas gifts; I bought my first goodwill wool sweater this weekend - I'll post the results once I am finished!

I have played around a little with felting but I wanted to learn more, so I took two classes this past Saturday- Needle Punch and Felting.  In the felting class, we made a 3D acorn.  It was a lot of fun (except for a few finger pokes), easy, and cute!

I will post it soon!!!!!

Catherine -- A mother of one of my students collected used wool sweaters last winter.  She washed them and made slippers for the kids at The Children's Hospital here in Denver.

Hi! I am wondering about this idea of making items from old woolen sweaters. Have you tried it yet?  I have never tried it, but sounds interesting.

This may sound stupid, but if you cut up the sweater, what keeps pieces from coming unraveled?  Or do you wash the sweaters in hot water to shrink up the fibers?   I read about someone who used the old type of die cut blocks (the kind with steel/wire) to cut out shapes.  Anyone heard about that?  Like you all, too many crafts & too little time....but maybe during Winter Break (OK, it's only 2 weeks long, but I could put this on my list. LOL)

I have made lots of things with old wool sweaters-hats and mittens and crazy stuffed creatures. You do have to wash them to get them to felt before cutting in to them. There's a great tutorial on making mittens here: http://studio5.ksl.com/?sid=4456414&nid=61
