Need something with a little American for the classroom or just want to celebrate being patriotic? Create these inexpensive, simple-to-fold sailor hats. Recycle
yesterday’s newspaper and decorate with construction paper and punches. You can also use stickers to decorate. Kids can honor Pearl Harbor Day, Memorial Day or Independence day in a flash!
Instructions
STEP 1:
To create the sailor hat, start by laying several sheets of newspaper out flat, full-spread.
STEP 2:
Fold the papers in half, right on the natural fold line, like you’re reading the first, front page.
STEP 3:
Fold the papers in half again, down.
STEP 4:
Put a vertical crease in the center of the paper by folding it in half and unfolding.
STEP 5:
Fold the top corners in to the center fold, making what looks like a triangle on top.
STEP 6:
Fold half of the bottom papers up to met the bottom of the triangle
STEP 7:
Then again to overlap the triangle.
STEP 8:
Flip the piece to the other side and repeat Step 6. Gently open the hat to wear.
STEP 9:
Decorate with construction paper, punches, and glue.
