A Spotted Canary Project by Spotted Canary Creations

19 March 2009

Try turning your needlepoint design into a beautiful accent pillow.

Instructions

STEP 1:

Cut away the excess canvas, working 1/2" away from the stitching on all sides.

Creative Edge Pillow Step 2

STEP 2:

The fringe has a bound edge with several rows of stitching and a row of basting at the other edge. To keep the fringe tidy, remove the basting after you complete the pillow.

Creative Edge Pillow Step 3

STEP 3:

Pin the fringe to the right side of your canvas. The bound edge of the fringe should lie on the unstitched canvas and the basted edge should lie on your stitching. Abut the ends of the fringe. Baste the bound edge of the fringe to the canvas.

Creative Edge Pillow Step 4

STEP 4:

On each piece of backing fabric, turn one 15" edge 1/4" to the wrong side and press. Turn another 1/4" to the wrong side and sew the hem. Baste the two backing pieces together, overlapping the hemmed edges by 4".

STEP 5:

Center the pillow back on your canvas with the right sides together and pin in place. Sew them together, working just inside the outer row of needlepoint stitches.

STEP 6:

Turn the pillow right side out and insert the pillow form.

STEP 7:

To start the cording, cut one end cleanly with the craft knife. Apply a bit of fabric glue to the ends of the cord to keep them from unraveling. Allow the glue to dry. Hand stitch the cording to the front of the pillow, starting at the bottom edge near the lower right corner. Cut the other end of the cording, making sure it tightly abuts the first end. Glue the ends together. Allow the glue to dry.

STEP 8:

If your canvas has become distorted from stitching, be sure to block it to straighten it before making it into a pillow.
