A Spotted Canary Project by Renaissance crafter

23 November 2009

Think shrinkable plastic is for kids? Don’t kid yourself! Jewelry is just one creation that can be made for adults but it is a great place to begin.  This Crystal and Faux Cloisonné Charm Bracelet combines shrinkable plastic, stamps, punches to make a piece a piece of jewelry that will wow your friends!

Instructions

STEP 1:

Punch several flowers out of the white shrink plastic, using the flower punch. On some of them, punch out a center using the scallop circle punch. On each of the flowers and the scalloped pieces, punch a hole with a quarter inch hole punch in one of the flower petals for adding jump rings.

STEP 2:

Heat the pieces with heat gun or in the oven, using instructions provided with the shrinkable plastic. Most products call for a preheated oven of 300 to 350 degrees. Place the pieces on the Teflon sheet before heating with the heat gun or placing in the oven. The plastic pieces will move and curl and then settle down, hopefully flat. Allow to cool. Discard any pieces that curl up.

STEP 3:

Keeping the pieces on the Teflon sheet, add alcohol based inks to color both sides of the pieces. Use tweezers for any handling of the wet charms. Allow to dry. Stamp each side with a size appropriate clear stamp that has been mounted on the acrylic block, using permanent ink. Allow to dry.

STEP 4:

Go around the outside edges and the inside edges on the open flowers (that you punched the scalloped circle out of) with the gold Painty Pen and allow drying. Add glossy dimensional product to each side, allowing each side to dry thoroughly.

STEP 5:

Plan out the design of your charm bracelet. Using the chain nose pliers and jump rings, add jump rings to each of the heart charms to be used. To open the jump rings, always open up and down, never straddling the rings out to make them larger. Add them to the bow charms and then attach them to the charm bracelet. Decide which of the faux cloisonné charms you plan to use. Add jump rings to the charms and attach them to the bracelet in the desired locations. Save the extra charms for other jewelry projects or use them on cards. Make sure the charms and crystals hang correctly on the bracelet.

STEP 6:

Enjoy your jewelry creation!
