Upcycle an old lampshade into a new spring mobile. Simple shapes and bright colored paper welcomes spring into your home. Use this idea as a party decoration for a bridal shower or as a fun craft project to create with your daughter for her room
Instructions
STEP
1:
Remove fabric lampshade from wired frame.
STEP
2:
Spray paint the frame pink and allow it to dry.
STEP
3:
Make 3 dangles to hang from the wired lampshade frame. You will need to use the included pattern to create the birds. Use a retractable blade to cut a slit for the bird’s wing. Punch a hole along the bird’s back and tie fishing line through it to hang the bird. Punch 3 different sized circles. Each circle set will need 2 of the same size circles. Sandwich the matching circle sizes with fishing line between them. For variety add a unique shape such as the scallop or you could use a seasonal shape
STEP
4:
I waited until the rest of the lampshade was decorated before securing the birds to it.
STEP
5:
Hot glue old children’s beaded necklaces for trim along the top of the lampshade. Add pink bows to the necklaces
STEP
6:
For a hanger, thread a piece of tulle through the lampshade hole. Then weave the tulle through an extra large button. Thread it back through the lampshade hole and tie a bow.
STEP
7:
Glue flat, pink plastic trim around the base of the lampshade. You can use any flat trim you have. I stumbled upon this piece at my local thrift store and liked how it matched the spray paint color.
STEP
8:
Create 3 large pink flowers and 3 large yellow flowers using the scalloped heart punch. Follow the step-out photos for creating this project. You will punch 3 of the heart punches with the Swiss Cheese punch. The base of the flower is a large circle punch with 4 heart punches on it. Add a button with embroidery floss as a finishing detail. For dimensional flowers, add foam tape between the layers of the flowers and fold the flowers to give them shape
STEP
9:
Create 6 smaller blue flower sets using the flower punch. Make sure to add foam tape between the flower layers. Add buttons to the center of each flower. Tip: The buttons don’t necessarily have to match. You could also add gems, stickers, glitter, or pom-poms to the flowers’ centers. Use something you already have in your stash!
STEP
10:
Cut leaves for the flowers by trimming an oval shape from patterned paper. Snip the ends of the oval to make them pointed like a leaf. Secure all your pieces to the lampshade!
