A Spotted Canary Project by brushnbecky

13 December 2010

Want to create a card that will make your recipient go, WOW?  Try this interactive waterfall card!  By simply pulling a tab, each image on your card is flipped to reveal the next image.  How fun!

Instructions

STEP 1:

From a piece of 4-1/4 x 11 inch piece of blue cardstock create a top folding card by scoring cardstock at 5 1/2 inches. Cut a 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch piece of red cardstock. Center and adhere to front of card.

STEP 2:

Cut a 2 1/2 x 5 inch piece of white cardstock. Center and adhere on top of red cardstock.

STEP 3:

Use 1 inch circle punch in center at bottom of card and punch in about a third of the way to form semicircular notch.

STEP 4:

Adhere a 1/4 x 4 1/2 inch strip of bright yellow cardstock to front of card approximately 1/2 inch from bottom of card using mini brads – attaching at sides of card ONLY!

STEP 5:

Cover inside of card with 4 x 5 inch piece of white cardstock mat to hide backs of mini brads. Cover other section inside card with a 4 x 5 1/4 inch piece of white cardstock on which you have printed/written birthday greeting.

STEP 6:

Cut 4 squares from white cardstock that measure 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches. Use birthday inchie stamps to stamp on each square - making each design a different color (red, blue, orange, & green – I didn’t use yellow because it didn’t show up as well.) Apply ink around the edges of each square in the same color as the stamped image.

STEP 7:

Mat each of the stamped squares on a 2 x 2 piece of cardstock of the same color. (except for orange stamped image - mat it on yellow cardstock.)

STEP 8:

Score a piece of 2 x 9 blue cardstock at 2”, 2 3/4”, 3 1/2”, and 4 1/4” inches. Fold along each score line, with all folds in same direction. Use bone tool to make each fold line crisp.

STEP 9:

Fold scored piece in half so that all scored lines are on top of strip. Adhere matted square that says, “Happy Birthday” to BOTTOM scored portion of waterfall strip (farthest away from the fold line) by applying adhesive to the 2” square section.

STEP 10:

Next, put adhesive on the 3/4 x 2 inch space directly above the first square and apply next matted image. **Note: The top of this square is the ONLY portion that will be adhered to the strip. Continue applying adhesive and adding the remaining two squares to the strip.

STEP 11:

Insert “non-scored” section of waterfall strip behind the yellow cardstock strip you attached to the front of the card with mini brads. Apply adhesive to the center ONLY of the yellow cardstock strip. Line up the bottom of the last square with the bottom of the yellow strip and press down. This is the ONLY place the waterfall strip is attached to the card.

STEP 12:

Punch two 5/8 inch circles from red cardstock. Adhere the top half only of one red circle to the bottom, underneath portion of the waterfall strip. Punch hole in the center of this circle and add a silver mini brad. Apply adhesive to the other circle and sandwich the back of the brad in between this circle and the one of the front of the strip.

STEP 13:

Gently pull the attached red circle and each square should flip down - your waterfall card is complete!

STEP 14:

Techniques: --Be sure you do NOT put any adhesive on the back of the strip that runs across the card. The waterfall piece must be free to move up and down under the strip. --Waterfalls can also be created horizontally on a card using the same directions as above.
