Create a cozy hat from an old sweater.

Instructions

STEP 1:

Wash a wool sweater in hot water and dry.

STEP 2:

Use template to cut hat. The hat is a square, except the top is smaller than the bottom. You will need to measure it around your head.

STEP 3:

Stitch the side of the hat closed. Use a running stitch along the top of the hat. Pull the thread to gather the sweater together. Depending where you start your stitch will determine how big the gather is at the top of the hat.

STEP 4:

Have fun embellishing you hat. Use sweater pieces to create a bird or a branch. Felted balls make berries and needle felting the beak adds even more texture to the hat.

STEP 5:

I cut the band off another wool sweater and stitched it to the hat.

STEP 6:

The ideas are endless. You could even create matching mittens!
