If you like making cards then you will definitely enjoy trying your hand at Origami, the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. Celebrate dad with this stunning Father’s Day Origami card. Using thinner paper makes folding easier. Cardstock or heavier weight paper may tear with all the folds. A bone folder will help make your folds crisp.
Instructions
STEP 1:
Fold a sheet of 12 x 12 patterned paper in half both directions. Unfold.
STEP 2:
Fold paper diagonally in both directions. Unfold.
STEP 3:
Fold each point to the center. Now you have a square.
STEP 4:
Fold each side into the center. Now you have a rectangle. Do this in both directions.
STEP 5:
Unfold the rectangle and then fold each side to the center as shown.
STEP 6:
Fold in half. Now you have a square. Do this in both directions.
STEP 7:
Fold the sides of the square back on both sides. Do this on both sides, forming a “letter M” shape. Do this in both directions.
STEP 8:
Partially unfold as shown, leaving two corner ends up and two ends under.
STEP 9:
To create your card box, start with one of the two sides that have the corners folded up and unfold that portion of the paper as shown.
STEP 10:
Fold the right and left corners back as shown.
STEP 11:
Fold the top triangle back. Now you have a square top.
STEP 12:
Fold the sides of the square back to the back center making another triangle top.
STEP 13:
Repeat steps 8-11 on the opposite side, then your box is complete.
STEP 14:
Lastly, create a belly band to wrap around the center and hold the box flat like a card. Add a double matted stamped image and adhere to the center front on top of the belly band. (see project main photo for final design)
If you want to add an interior piece to your card you can do that with any standard fold, or use the one shown which is step 1 and 2 repeated and then folded as shown in this step image.
