One of my favorite gifts to give during the holidays is food, and while I often make my own food to gift sometimes there just isn’t time to do that for everyone on my list. Keeping your handmade Christmas gifts simple by creating your own food packaging for store bought items is a wonderfully simple way to give. Pick up some brown handled bags and decorate them this holiday season!
Using one stamp twice is a great way to get extra mileage out of one image, on this project I stamped it in two colors and highlight the center image with a plain background punch. This makes my stamped image a focal point on this package, and I did it with just one stamp!
Instructions
STEP 1:
Cut a piece of cardstock to fit the front of your bag. Then cut a patterned piece just smaller than your cardstock. Stitch around your patterned piece of paper about 1/4” in around the piece.
STEP 2:
Add embossing ink to the front and back side of your stitched piece of paper. Add gold embossing powder and heat set. HELPFUL TIP: When you use embossing ink you can easily layer your embossing powders. On this project I embossed in gold and then again with opalescent and then again the edges in gold. As long as you are careful to let each layer dry you can do lots of layers of powder until you achieve your desired look.
STEP 3:
Adhere the patterned piece to cardstock with adhesive and then both pieces to the bag with double sided super tacky tape.
STEP 4:
Stitch a piece of gold ribbon to a piece of twill and adhere around the bag with super tacky tape. Cut the ends of the ribbon with heavy duty scissors. Leave enough to tie.
STEP 5:
Stamp onto crème cardstock with plum ink. Then cover image with opalescent powder and heat set. Clean stamp. Stamp same image with embossing powder and then emboss with gold powder. When dry cover image with embossing ink and heat set with opalescent powder. Punch out a 1” square and carefully emboss each edge with gold. You can use a paint brush to dust off excess before heat setting if needed.
STEP 6:
Take a frame from the photo frame kit and emboss the edges of the frame with gold.
STEP 7:
Add the image stamped in plum to the back of the frame.
STEP 8:
Punch a scalloped square out of plum paper and adhere that to the image in the frame, then add your gold image to the center of the plum.
STEP 9:
Decorate frame with jeweled brads from the glittered medallion kit.
STEP 10:
Adhere frame to bag as shown.
STEP 11:
Add tissue, tie ribbon and you are done!
