Fun craft activities to make at a slumber party

Author: Kara Ward

What is more fun than a sleepover party? A sleepover with fun games and projects! Sleepover parties are an exciting invitation to stay up all night and share secrets with special friends. Having a theme party makes the night even more spectacular. From the invitations to the décor, your guests will have a memorable experience. With a little imagination we’ll show you how you can change the rooms in your home into the local shopping center – even if it is just for one special night!

The invitation is the first seed of excitement you plant. For a shopping themed party, I recommend a little purse invitation. You can fold paper into the shape of a purse and add a simple ribbon handle. Another cute idea is to create a shopping list with the who, what, where, when, and why questions listed. Make sure your invitations have your guests bringing sleeping bags, if needed, and state the next day pickup time. For our Mall Madness party, guests may want to bring a favorite outfit or a T-shirt for decorating.

Next, let’s talk about decorations. This theme party needs lots of signs. Have the name of your mall out front to welcome your guests and set the mood for the party. Label each room in your home after a favorite hot shopping spot or restaurant. For example, the kitchen may become Bravo’s Italian Cuisine, and the family room may become Tiffany’s Jewelry Store. In the living room, use old sheets or roll paper to create a runway for a fashion show.

Every sleepover party needs Fun and Games. Kick off the party with a fashion show. Girls of all ages love to create outfits from fabric, old clothes, or even large pieces of paper. For a silly twist, you can give each girl a roll of toilet paper from which to create an outfit. Make sure to play music and have a fashion show announcer. Award each participant a handmade ribbon. Hasbro created a board game called “Mall Madness.” This may be a fun party game, depending on the size of your group. Have the girls decorate personal shopping bags. Buy inexpensive canvas bags so they will be “Earth Friendly” and this also serves as a bag to carry home all their cool party treats. At Tiffany’s, you will create paper necklaces, Perler bead rings, and a nifty jewelry box in which to store everything. At Limited Too, “fashion divas” will create one-of-a- kind party T-shirts. They can then “shop” in each labeled mall store for cool handmade gifts. Fabric markers make it so everyone can sign each other’s shirts and have a special souvenir. Using a large box, create a Kodak picture booth for party pictures. Assign a family member to be the official slumber party photographer. You can call them “the paparazzi.” Other areas in your home may be the hair salon for an “up-do” or the spa for a pedicure. The ideas are endless.

With a little preparation you can be assured that this sleepover party will be one for the memory book. So get creating and have some fun bringing the local mall home for a party!
