A Spotted Canary Project by brushnbecky

1 February 2010

Hearts & glitter & lace…oh, my! This fun little “explosion” album makes a great gift for that special loved one this Valentine’s Day. Add photos, journaling, and embellishments for a gift that will be treasured for years to come!

Instructions

Sweet Little Gal Explosion Album - Step 1

STEP 1:

The “pages” for this book are 3 pieces of 8 x 8 inch light pink cardstock. Fold each piece in half horizontally, then vertically and on ONE of the diagonals. Crease each piece well on both sides using bone folder.

Sweet Little Gal Explosion Album - Step 2

STEP 2:

To connect the pages, attach one SOLID square area of one paper to a SOLID square area of another paper. You’ll want to layer the pages so that the folded areas of one paper are on the TOP SIDE and the folded areas of the next paper are on the BOTTOM SIDE. Set pages aside while you construct the cover for your album.

STEP 3:

To make book front and back cover, apply adhesive to one side of a 4 1/4 inch square of chipboard and center it over the wrong side of a piece of 5 1/2 inch patterned paper. Trim off the corner edges of the patterned paper at a 45 degree angle close to each corner of the chipboard. Apply glue to edges of patterned paper and fold over chipboard.

Sweet Little Gal Explosion Album - Step 4

STEP 4:

Attach ribbon to inside of cover before adhering pages of book. I used 2 pieces of 18 inch ribbon centered & adhered across the wrong side of each cover piece so my book would tie on the sides. If you want your book to tie on the front, you can use one 24 inch piece of ribbon across the back inside cover. You would then wrap it around to the front to tie once your book is complete.

Sweet Little Gal Explosion Album - Step 5

STEP 5:

Decide which way you want your book to open and apply adhesive to back of first and last page to adhere to inside of cover pieces. Be sure to use a really strong adhesive to attach pages together and also to adhere pages to covers of book as this book will be opened and shut numerous times! Allow time to dry if using a “wet” adhesive

STEP 6:

I covered each of my inside “triangle” pieces with slightly smaller triangular pieces of contrasting cardstock. This allowed me to run some of them through my printer to add journaling.

STEP 7:

Add photos, journaling, and embellishments to complete your album pages. Remember you can decorate the front pages as well as the pages on the reverse side!
