I made this “cake” using a box template shaped like a slice of cake. This is the perfect gift for a baby shower, wedding or birthday. Just vary the scrap booking paper according to the occasion. It took 12 “slices” to make this 7 1/2″ in diameter cake. Enlarge or shrink template to make the cake the size you like. Try doing mini cakes too! Fill each box with anything from candy, a message or a bible verse. You can do something different for every month of the year since there are 12 slices, or if you have a big family have each family member put a special note in each slice.
-Trace templates on back side of sturdy scrap booking paper. Cut out, fold along lines and glue the side edges, but not the back flap so that recipient can open and close each box.
-Decorate each box as desired. Just be sure to decorate so each slice fits nicely against each other and looks uniform when all the slices are together. Enclose messages or whatever you like in each slice.
-Place boxes in circle and use wide ribbon to enclose and hold together all the boxes. Be sure not to glue ribbon to boxes. Only glue ribbon to itself tightly enough so it hold boxes securely together but can be slipped off.
-Decorate wide ribbon with smaller ribbons or embellishment/flowers.
-For the top/middle of cake I just stuck in small silk flowers using their stems but did not glue them so that they could be remove and inserted again easily.
Piece of cake to make! (hee-hee)
