I was handed this "bottle" of soda to try at a demo recently. I thought the bottle was just too cute to throw away or to recycle in normal ways. My daughter, a high school history teacher, has her own classroom this school year for the first time. I thought how cute this would look on her desk since this is her favorite beverage. I used punch art from soda cans and paper scraps, as well as an old wool sweater that had been felted. To go with the felt leaves, I needle felted centers for the flower centers and of course, recycled the bottle to serve as the vase. I think it will make her happy when she comes in and also show her students what can be done with recycled objects.
Instructions
STEP 1:
Use flower punches to punch out flowers. Carefully cut an aluminum drink can open and punch the aluminum as well as cardstock. Punch a small hole in the center of each flower. I used four layers of flower for each flower. Insert a piece of wire through the hole and using tool, curl the wire so that the flowers can not slip off. Use floral tape under the flowers, securing it from just beneath the flower, encircling the wire all the way down the stem. Cut purchased felt or felted wool from an old sweater into the shape of leaves, leaving a stem on the leaf that can be taped to the flower stem. Using purchased pom poms or needle felted balls made from roving wool, add the flower centers. Bend the petals up. Arrange the flowers in a pleasing manner and insert in vase. Add ribbon if desired.
