It’s raining. It’s pouring. How do you keep the day from being boring? To make rainy day projects extra special, have a collection of supplies that only comes out when the weather is soggy. Get the kids engaged in some fun and easy craft projects. Keeping their hands and minds busy with an activity other than a video game or movie will certainly ward off the “I’m bored” blues.

A plastic tub filled with an eclectic mix of general items will be the starting point for hours of imaginative play. Choose supplies that have multiple uses and make sure the box is stocked with all types of adhesives. Here are some supplies you may want to include in your rainy day stash: pipe cleaners, pom poms, craft sticks, wooden shapes, wiggly eyes, glitter, paint, yarn, felt, fun foam and clear contact paper. Once you add items from your own paper crafting inventory, such as punches, embellishments, cardstock and patterned paper, there will be no limit to the projects the kids will create.

Get the creative process started by guiding the kids through a few pre-planned projects. Show them how to make paper bag puppets, pipe cleaner animals or placemats. Better yet, teach them how to craft checkers and a matching board for guaranteed hours of fun. After they have completed a few items, let them loose with the supplies and watch the day slip by without a single “I’m bored”. These rainy day projects are sure to ward off those rainy day blues for good!
