A Spotted Canary Project by TracyB

24 April 2009

Create a globe made out of paper mache

Instructions

STEP 1:

Tear your newspaper into narrow strips.

STEP 2:

Mix your craft glue with water, not too thin.

STEP 3:

Dip your strips of newsprint into the glue mixture and cover the rubber ball. I did 2-3 layers of newsprint on the ball. Wait for each layer to dry before adding another.

STEP 4:

When completely dry, paint your base coat. In this case it was the light blue for the water.

STEP 5:

Draw out the rest of your design with pencil and paint. Antarctica is painted white, the rest is green.

STEP 6:

Add glitter glue to Antarctica then add the fine crystal glitter. Let dry.

STEP 7:

Add glitter glue to where the mountain ranges of the world are, add the green glitter. Let dry.

STEP 8:

Cut small triangles out of white cardstock and mat these in red. Write your cities in the white triangles. Adhere using a strong adhesive to the globe.

STEP 9:

* Tip for Success: The key is to get the right consistency of the glue water mixture. You don’t want it too think, it would be hard to work with. You don’t want it too thin, it would take too long to dry and wouldn’t dry as hard. Thinner strips of paper lye flatter on a round surface. * Techniques: Glitter one section of your project at a time, and leave lots of drying time so that you are not ruining any previously glittered areas.
