A Spotted Canary Project by brushnbecky

3 February 2012

Sail away on a bright, birthday adventure with this colorful, sailboat inspired birthday party!  Dimensional sailboat stickers make creating multiple invitations quick and easy!  Use additional boat stickers on medallions to embellish newspaper sailor hats and pockets for holding napkins and silverware!

Instructions

STEP 1:

Card base is a 4 1/4 x 7 1/2 inch piece of yellow-green cardstock. Score card at 2 inches and crease well to make a bottom-folding 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch card.

STEP 2:

Stamp Polka Dot design all over inside of card base using green ink. Use Stamp-a-ma-jig tool to help align stamp. Turn card over and stamp polka dots on the two-inch flap portion of the card. Clean stamp.

STEP 3:

Cut two strips from blue cardstock: one that is 4 1/4 x 1 inch and a second that is 4 1/4 x 1 3/4 inches. Stamp Polka Dot design on one side of each strip using blue ink.

STEP 4:

Use 3/4 inch circle punch along top edge of each strip to create “waves”. Highlight the top of each wave by rubbing on a little white ink.

STEP 5:

With the card positioned vertically, fold two inch flap up from the bottom. Adhere larger blue wave piece using a 3-D close to each side. Adhere smaller wave on top of larger wave and flush with bottom of card flap using adhesive tape runner.

STEP 6:

Adhere 3 of the sailboat repeat stickers to blue “wave” portion of card.

STEP 7:

Score a 3 x 8 inch piece of light blue cardstock at 4 inches and crease well to make a top-fold card insert.

STEP 8:

Stamp top portion of floral flourish stamp on left, front side of card insert using blue ink (bottom of stamp will extend off of cardstock). Re-ink and stamp flourish again – this time only stamping the very top portion of the stamp on the insert.

STEP 9:

Stamp “Party Time” on small scrap of yellow-green cardstock. Punch stamped image out using 1-1/8 inch circle punch.

STEP 10:

Punch 1 1/4 inch circle from blue cardstock. Adhere circle you stamped in step 9 to this circle. Fold 4 inch piece of ribbon and adhere to back of circle. Add foam adhesive to back and adhere close to top right side of card insert.

STEP 11:

Stamp “You’re Invited” on white cardstock. Cut around image leaving small white border and adhere inside insert at top.

STEP 12:

Mat wallet photo of child on yellow-green mat and adhere to lower portion on the inside of insert.

STEP 13:

Adhere insert to inside of card approximately 1/2 inch from top of card. Bottom of insert will then tuck in behind waves on lower flap.

STEP 14:

Techniques: A circle punch can be used along the edge of a strip of cardstock to create “waves”. Vary the depth as you insert the punch along the top edge of the strip to make your waves look more realistic!
