A Spotted Canary Project by Renaissance crafter

1 July 2009

A shaker card is a fun card to make and to receive.

Instructions

STEP 1:

Cut your different layers to make your shaker card. You will have the front piece of cardstock, your acetate, your thickness layer, and your back piece of cardstock. Double sided cardstock works great for this back layer. Punch your openings in your front piece of cardstock. Trace the outer reaches of these openings through that front piece of cardstock, on the thickness layer of your card. If you are using craft foam for your thickness layer, the sharp ends of the scissors works great to cut an opening larger than the openings on your front piece of cardstock. This open area will be where your confetti will be placed eventually.

STEP 2:

Decorate the front of the card as you desire. Here, the punched flowers were used as an embellishment. Fiber was added to the top.

STEP 3:

Using the double-sided tissue tape, encircle the opening you have cut in the craft foam (thickness layer) on the front and back of the foam. This will keep the confetti from escaping.

STEP 4:

Remove the tape liner from the tape on the back of the foam and secure it to the back of the card. It is a good idea to lightly dust the inside opening with an anti-static pad before placing the confetti in that opening. Add the confetti. Items that are fine in texture, such as glitter, are very pretty in shaker cards. But it is very important to have the perimeter of the opening you cut in the foam be very secure, front and back, so that the glitter does not fall out. Larger items such as confetti or pieces you have punches stay in more easily.

STEP 5:

Next, remove the tape liner from the front of the foam (thickness layer). Secure the acetate or clear plastic over the foam. Next, either using more tape or eyelets through the entire card, add the card front over the acetate.

STEP 6:

This card does not open, but you can use the back of the card for your message.
