Instructions
STEP 1:
For sampler background, cover backboard with burlap and section out areas that you want art to be displayed in. Using red and blue embroidery floss, stitch small x’s to create dividing lines.
STEP 2:
For pinwheel, cut a 3 1/2 inch square. Fold point to point to find center. Cut on each fold line 3/4 inch towards center. Each corner will have two points now – pull every other point to center and adhere. Points should meet at center of square. Repeat process with smaller square and layer the two pinwheels together. Add a star embellishment to center. Adhere to frame in top left corner.
STEP 3:
For AMERICA circles, use punches to create the pieces. Letters are punched with circle punch from 12 x 12 sheet from the Americana Paper Pad. Layer circles using 3D-dots and adhere to top of frame in space allocated for them.
STEP 4:
For pennant banner, use Americana mat pad. Cut 10 triangles from cream paper. Cut fine stripes from red paper and adhere each strip to cream triangles to create stripes. The ZIG 2-Way Squeeze and Roll Glue is perfect for this step. Cut strips from blue and adhere horizontally to top of each triangle. Trim all overhanging paper from edges. Layer 2 triangles together using 3-Dots. End result should be five layered triangles. Cut a piece of twine, tie knots on both ends, and adhere to backboard towards left side center of picture. Adhere the five layered triangles along the twine to create pennant. Apply gem stars to blue strip on each of the triangles to finish.
STEP 5:
American Flag square is an embellishment from the K&Company Americana Layered Accents.
STEP 6:
For Firecrackers, roll pieces of paper. Tightness of roll will determine width of firecracker. Wrap centers with contrasting paper and add embellishment to center. Twist three pieces of twine and adhere ends inside rolls. Add embellishments to top of twine for bursts. Adhere three firecrackers to middle right side of frame.
STEP 7:
For rosette, cut two 1 inch strips of patterned paper. Score both strips at 1/4 inch increments. Zig-zag fold pieces and adhere ends together to create a circle. Lay on flat surface and push center down to flatten rosette. Adhere a piece of scrap cardstock to back to hold rosette in place. Add circular flag embellishment to top. Adhere to far right space in frame as shown.
STEP 8:
5-Point Star: Cut out a pentagon, which you have transferred to patterned paper from attached template. Fold in half at all points (5 folds). Measure up about a third of the way from each edge and place a dot on fold line. Trim from each point to dot. Cut on center fold of each side halfway to middle of star. Turn star over and fold triangles in to form star points. Place a piece of tape on each point where folded edges meet to hold them together. Turn star to right side and shape for 3-D effect. Adhere to frame in lower left corner, along with a blank tag and additional embellishments.
STEP 9:
Red, White, and Blue Banner: Trace templates onto patterned paper and cut out each piece using scissors or craft knife. Crumble and crinkle each paper to achieve “weathered” texture effect. Adhere layers together and add stars to curved edges on layers. Add circular embellishment to top. Adhere banner to bottom center of frame.
STEP 10:
USA letters: Cover chipboard letters with patterned paper. Tie ribbons to them and add additional Americana embellishments. Adhere to far right bottom corner of frame, using 3D-Dots on the “S.”
