A Spotted Canary Project by Spotted Canary Creations

3 April 2009

This casual and fun to make crystal necklace will be enjoyed for quite some time.  The classic leaf pendants combine beautifully with linked crystals and ring connectors. Alternate the connector bead units to create an asymmetrical pattern for the necklace.

Instructions

STEP 1:

With a pair of chain nose pliers in each hand, locate the split in the jump ring.

STEP 2:

Gently open the jump ring by moving one hand away from you and the other towards you (photo).

STEP 3:

To close jump ring, reverse the opening step (photo).

STEP 4:

Thread crystal bead onto headpin.

STEP 5:

Use the chain nose pliers to bend the wire to 90 degree angle (photo).

STEP 6:

Use the cutter to trim headpin wire to about ½” from the bend (photo).

STEP 7:

Use the round nose pliers to grip the end of the wire and bend it towards you to form a loop (photo).

STEP 8:

Begin by creating the crystal stations using an eye pin to start and then making an eye pin loop at the end. Create the patterns as shown here or design your own to suit your style and personality. Create 7 units of the following pattern of bicone beads: 4mm Chryoslite, 6mm Palace Green Opal, 4mm Chryoslite. Create an additional 7 units of the following alternate pattern of bicone beads: 4mm Erinite, 6mm Pacific Blue Opal, 4mm Erinite.

STEP 9:

Use jump rings to connect the center pendant drops of 2 silver leaf charms together.

STEP 10:

Create the asymmetrical pattern, alternating the beaded connectors with the rings.

STEP 11:

Connect the necklace together with jump rings.

STEP 12:

Attach lobster claw and jump ring to make closure.

STEP 13:

Use care and restraint when working with metal tools and a lot of crystals. You don’t want to get rough or to put undue pressure against a crystal as it might break. Necklace sample size shown is 18”, princess length.
