Author: Corrine Mihlek-Brzys

Are you a beginning crafter just itching to start a project but don’t know what to do? Or are you a seasoned crafter whose creative urge switch is stuck on “off”? No matter who you are, you can set your creative mojo to “go” by trying something totally new for you…cross stitch!

Modern Cross Stitch:
Whoa. Did visions of granny just pop into your head? You think cross stitch is ancient and fussy? Well, just because the craft is centuries-old doesn’t mean you (or the designs) have to be! Take a stroll through the needlecraft section of your local craft store and blow the cobwebs off those antiquated thoughts. While you’ll still find many traditional designs, you’ll be amazed by the more trendy, hip, modern cross stitch options offered today.

Your First Project:
Still unsure? Pick up a small kit for your first foray - something made for a beginner. Kits like these are the perfect introduction into the craft. Everything has been thought of--from fabric to design and color. All you need to do is read the instructions and go!

Creative Finishings:
What do you do with your piece when done? While many people simply frame their newly-made art, that’s not the only option you have. You can easily decorate pillows, towels, and even lampshades! Try mixing your cross stitch with other crafts for a fun, fresh feel. Incorporate your work into a scrapbook page, an extra-special greeting card, or a fabulous shadow box.
