A Spotted Canary Project by Nicole

23 March 2009

Use poster board and yarn to make an adorable graduation cap.  Use to celebrate a kindergarten graduation or to play dress-up.

Instructions

STEP 1:

Cut poster board. For each cap you need one 10 x 10 inch square, one 4 x 22 inch band and one 2 x 4 inch rectangle.

STEP 2:

Draw a white pencil line 1 inch below one long edge of the poster board strip. This is a fold and cutting guide.

STEP 3:

Cut yarn into 36 inch, 24 inch and 4 inch pieces.

STEP 4:

Punch circle from poster board and attach a foam adhesive circle.

STEP 5:

Fold poster board band along the white pencil line.

STEP 6:

Cut eight triangle notches from the band’s folded edge.

STEP 7:

Wrap band around child’s head to size and staple to secure.

STEP 8:

Flatten band and add glue to folded edge with the triangle notches.

STEP 9:

Attach band to cap base, keeping folded edge inside band.

STEP 10:

Wrap the 36 inch yarn length around the 2 x 4 inch poster board rectangle.

STEP 11:

Thread the 24 inch yarn length through loops at one end. Tie in knot.

STEP 12:

Remove yarn from poster board. Tie the 4 inch yarn length around loops about 3/4 inch down from tied end. Trim ends.

STEP 13:

Attach tassel to cap base at the top center point using a glue stick. Top with punched black circle.
