Just about everything we throw away we could repurpose. Take these soup can luminaries for example, most of us just throw them away, sure we might recycle them—but what about repurposing them! This is a great project for your tween, have them paint or cover a soup can with paper, punch holes for a tie if you want to hang it and create a design with a hammer and a nail—the detail is up to them! We recommend using a battery tea light instead of a real candle, with the tea lights you could even hang this on your tree!
Instructions
STEP 1:
Remove paper and clean soup can.
STEP 2:
When dry, cover with paper. Use punches to decorate edges if desired.
STEP 3:
Punch holes with a large nail and thread a ribbon through to use as a hanger. Tie on both sides.
STEP 4:
Use a punch as a design to follow as your punch art.
STEP 5:
Use a nail and hammer to create design. Use a push pin with a flat head to first set your design, then go back with a hammer and thick nail to make your holes bigger. The bigger the whole the more light that will shine through.
STEP 6:
Add battery operated tea light and let your luminary shine!
