Instructions
STEP 1:
Follow the directions in the Pom Pom Insects kit for putting the insects together. The kit has step by step pictures on how to make the bugs. Or create your own from scratch using craft pom poms and other fun crafty supplies! Allow bugs to dry while you are constructing a home for your new pets.
STEP 2:
Cover the box with favorite papers or paint it.
STEP 3:
Have an adult cut windows into a recycled box. Add screen from a screen repair kit to the inside of the box. Make sure not to poke yourself on the sharp screen.
STEP 4:
Add details like doors, window shutters, flowers, and leaves to the home.
STEP 5:
Create a floor for the house from a circle shaped piece of cardboard. Cereal boxes work well for this. Cover the circle and attach to the bottom of the house. Add a scallop around the grass if you chose.
STEP 6:
The roof is a folded piece of patterned paper. It is secured to one side of the box only. The other side has a piece of Velcro under it for latching the house shut.
STEP 7:
Twist 2 pipe cleaners together to create a handle. Wrap paper around the handle to give your hand a place to carry the house.
STEP 8:
Add stickers and bugs.
STEP 9:
This may be a home for your pom pom creature, or it might be a home for a real creepy crawly.
STEP 10:
Have fun and remember each person’s home will be unique just like they are!!!!
STEP 11:
Tip for Success: Provide the preschoolers with extra pom poms, felt, and googly eyes to create their own buggy creatures. If covering the buggy box seems like it is taking too long, pull out some paint and have the kids paint their boxes outside. I recommend preparing the house for the children so they are ready to decorate them when they arrive at your home.
