Personalize your room with these whimsical embellished switch plates created with a paint-by-number kit. After painting, add 3D stickers and some dimensional glaze for a one-of-a-kind work of art!
Instructions
STEP 1:
Decide portion of painting you wish to use for each switch plate. I used a clear plate cover that I had on hand as a pattern and positioned it on various areas of the painting to help me decide what sections to use. You can either use a pencil and lightly trace around this plate or use the actual plate and cut with your blade butted up to the edge of it. Cut out sections of the painting using knife, mat, and metal ruler. Press firmly on first pass with the knife blade and continue to carefully go back over area until you have cut through all layers of the chipboard backing.
STEP 2:
Trace rectangular opening in center of each plate with a pencil. Cut out with knife.
STEP 3:
Use leftover paint from your kit to paint around raw edges on each plate.
STEP 4:
Use a toothpick to place a small amount of dimensional adhesive on coral, stripes on fish, and any other portion of painting you wish to highlight. Let dry completely!
STEP 5:
Add dimensional stickers such as additional fish or epoxy bubbles to plate.
STEP 6:
Use thin coats of clear decoupage medium to cover entire surface and edges of switch plate. You will need to use at least three coats.
STEP 7:
When decoupage medium has thoroughly dried, spray or brush on clear sealer.
