Peyote Stitch Easter Basket Necklace

Instructions

STEP 1:

TO MAKE BASKET BASE: Thread needle with a comfortable length of thread, pick up 50 delica beads and tie into a knot to form a ring. Perform peyote stitch for eight (8) rows.

STEP 2:

Pick up 1 delica bead, needle through 2 beads. Follow this same pattern to end. 12 beads total.

STEP 3:

Pick up 2 beads, go through 1 bead, to end. Note: You will see gaps, as well as see your thread at times. This is what gives you the nest affect.

STEP 4:

Pick up 1 bead, needle through 4th bead, pick up 1 bead, needle through 3rd bead. Continue same pattern as highlighted area in this step until end. 12 beads total.

STEP 5:

Pick up 1 bead, needle through bead from previous row. Continue to end. 12 beads total.

STEP 6:

Pick up 1 bead, needle through 2 beads from previous row. Go to end. 6 beads total.

STEP 7:

At this point you are closing the circle. Continue to do so until you reach a small hole. You will not close this all the way. When you reach the end, weave your thread through the beads and cut off thread.

STEP 8:

I cut a small circle of green foam to place in the bottom of the basket and around the sides to give it more shape, this is optional.

STEP 9:

TO MAKE EGGS FOR BASKET: String 1 delica, 1 bead cab, 1 bicone, 1 bead cab, 1 delica, for a total of 12 random bicones. Wrap this around the inside of the basket and start weaving your thread in to secure the beads in place. Overlap them at the top too, so they can be seen.

STEP 10:

TO MAKE BASKET HANDLE: Thread needle and pick up 8 delica beads. Leaving a tail long enough to weave handle to basket, perform peyote stitch to desired length. Be sure you have enough thread at the needle end as well to weave to the basket. Find your halfway point on both sides of the basket and start weaving your ends in, making sure they are secure, as this will be hanging with beads. You don’t want this breaking off.

STEP 11:

TO MAKE NECKLACE: Separate 2 pieces of chain to measure 4 1/2 inches and 4 pieces 2 1/8 inches. Thread needle with about 10 inches of thread. Note: This is 20 inches of thread doubled on your needle.

STEP 12:

BICONE PATTERN: 2 delicas, 1 bead cab, 1 amethyst bicone, 1 bead cap, 1 delica, 1 bead cap, 1 aquamarine bicone, 1 bead cap, 1 delica, 1 bead cap, 1 delica, 1 bead cap, 1 jonquil bicone, 1 bead cap, 1 delica, 1 bead cap, 1 peridot bicone, 1 bead cap, 2 delicas.

STEP 13:

Pick up a 4 1/2 inch piece of chain, needle through end of loop. Now bring needle through all beads just added. Pick up a 2 1/8 inch piece of chain, needle through end of loop, tie a knot close to beads. Needle through a few beads to hide the knot and cut thread as close as you can. You will repeat the bicone pattern, picking up another 2 1/8 inch chain to complete one side. Repeat above for the other side.

STEP 14:

String 1 delica, 1 bead cap, 1 bicone, 1 bead cap, 1 delica on an eye pin and close with a simple loop. Make 2. Add this and 1 - 4mm jump ring to the end of the 2 1/8 chain. On the other end add the 6mm jump ring. This is where the Basket will be placed. Find the center of the basket handle and place a 6mm jump ring, attach this to the jump ring in the center of the chain. Add your extender chain and lobster clasp and you are set for Easter.
