A Spotted Canary Project by Spotted Canary Creations

25 January 2011

Large sew-on crystals can be attached to fabric randomly or sewn in a dramatic pattern, as in this floral fabric wristlet.  By accenting with Hotfix crystals, the stunning pattern is enhanced.  Everyone will “ooh” and “aah” when they catch sight of this beauty!

Instructions

STEP 1:

Use iron to fuse interfacing to back center of one piece of taffeta. Interfacing is used to help stabilize the fabric while you are stitching and prevent it from fraying.

STEP 2:

Clip corners of fused taffeta. Fold excess fabric over. Press in place.

STEP 3:

Place batting over the back center of the other piece of taffeta. Clip corners. Fold excess over. Press. Set this piece aside.

STEP 4:

Use about 2 arm lengths of invisible thread to make a double-stranded needle. Be sure to secure a double knot at the end. Because nylon thread may not always hold a knot, it is best to place a dab of clear nail polish on the knot. Let dry.

STEP 5:

Attach crystals to fabric. It is best to go through each hole of the 28mm by 17mm Teardrops 4 times. Sew through each hole of the remaining crystals 3 times. After each Sew-On Crystal is attached, tie a surgeon’s knot on back of the fabric to secure in place. Carefully add a dab of clear nail polish, being cautious as it may show on the front.

STEP 6:

Using the fabric strip set aside in Step 3, place the back sides together with the fabric just embellished. Carefully machine appliqué stitch the pieces together along all edges. Depending on your sewing machine, you may have to switch your presser foot and adjust your settings.

STEP 7:

Use Hotfix Tool to apply the Flat Back Hotfix Crystals as follows: 3mm Amethyst around center and 2 outside Rivolis, 3mm Light Rose around remaining Rivolis; 4mm Ernite connecting the leaves; and 5mm Amethyst placed randomly.

STEP 8:

With needle and thread, make whipstitches to attach 2 of the same halves of the Magnetic Closures to one end of the fabric. Stitch through each hole 3 times. You may want to use 1-2 seed beads between the clasp and fabric to prevent the metal from rubbing against the taffeta. Tie a surgeon’s knot. Use clear nail polish to secure knot.

STEP 9:

Repeat Step 8 with the other parts of the Magnetic Closures on the other end of the fabric.

STEP 10:

Place a small drop of anti-fraying liquid to each corner of the fabric to secure threads.

STEP 11:

Finished length of the wristlet is 7 3/4 inches.
