A Spotted Canary Project by Spotted Canary Creations

30 November 2009

This lovely front closure necklace employs 3 strategically placed crystals as accents that takes this design style up a notch. A delicate color combination of mint green and pinks keeps this necklace pleasing and attractive for most any occasion.

When stringing double strands that work closely with each other, slightly adjust each strands bead count to be a bit off as this provides separation of each strand. This slight modification also allows the necklace to curve more naturally around the neck.

Necklace sample size shown is a length of 17”.

Instructions

STEP 1:

Cut two pieces of flexible stringing wire 20” long each.

cosmic design necklace2

STEP 2:

Start stringing 4mm bicone crystal beads onto one strand of stringing wire working from the center out to the ends. Arrange the crystals in a repeat pattern as desired or following the pattern shown here: 1 Rose Water Opal, 1 Fuchsia, 1 Rose Water Opal, 5 Chrysolite, 1 Rose Water Opal, 5 Chrysolite. String to about a 12” length and clamp off with a bead stopper. Set piece aside

STEP 3:

Repeat the same stringing pattern on the other piece of stringing wire but start the pattern in a different place to show contrast. String the length until about a 12” length and clamp off with a bead stopper.

STEP 4:

You will now string both strands into a pattern with the cosmic bead using a silver twist spacer on either side. Clamp off both strands on either side with bead stoppers. At this point, begin to size your piece to determine if placement of accent crystals is right. Add on or subtract crystals to be happy with look.

STEP 5:

String each strand on each side with 4mm bicones, again starting and stopping pattern as if it is continuing from other side of cosmic bead. Make right side of necklace about ½” long. String left side of necklace about 1 ½” long. Again, making sure all ends are clamped off securely with bead stoppers, adjust necklace to determine proper placement of toggle closure. Toggle bar is to be fastened on right side and toggle hoop on left side. Add on or subtract crystals to be happy with look and fit.

STEP 6:

Crimp all four strands carefully and securely onto each toggle piece.

STEP 7:

Using silver head pins and bicone beads, create 2 crystal dangles making eye pins loops at top. You can make up your own pattern or follow patterns shown here: cosmic bead with silver twist spacer and one each of 6mm Fuchsia and Rose Water Opal (make 1); 4mm Rose Water Opal and Chrysolite (make 2); 4mm Fuchsia (make 2).

STEP 8:

Open up each crystal dangle by gently opening eye pin loop with chain nose pliers. Attach each dangle to toggle hoop as desired or as shown in photo.
