Instructions
STEP 1:
For a unique antique look, follow the directions in the Antiquing Copper article (see Related Resources below) to age your copper domes before starting this project.
STEP 2:
String a crystal bicone onto a headpin and wrap the wire to create a loop at the top. To achieve the ‘old’ look of the necklace, make sure to wrap the wire to resemble a bead cap at the top where the wire twists down the top of the crystal. Repeat this step for the rest of the crystals and all but four black pearls and one brown pearl.
STEP 3:
Thread the headpin through the first hole on a copper dome and then thread a black pearl. Thread the headpin through the second hole on the copper dome. Pull the headpin tight and create a loop. Wrap the wire the same way as in step 1 to create a cap. Repeat for the remaining two copper domes.
STEP 4:
Cut two 3 1/4 inch lengths of the silver chain. Snip the head off a gunmetal headpin and string a brown pearl. Form even loops on each end and wrap the wire to create caps. Use a 4mm jump ring to attach one of the lengths of chain. Repeat with the other length of chain.
STEP 5:
Cut two 3 inch lengths of gunmetal chain. Repeat step 4 using a black pearl.
STEP 6:
To assemble the necklace, it is easier to start from the bottom and work upwards. Starting with the cross, add one 6mm jump ring and connect it to the bottom of one of the copper domes. The wire cap should be at the top.
STEP 7:
Connect the copper dome to the bottom of one of the brown pearls. Use a 4mm jump ring to connect the top loop at the top of the copper pearl to the bottom of the three ring connector.
STEP 8:
Connect a crystal to each of the loops at the top of the three ring connector. Symmetry is important with this piece so whatever is added to the left side of the necklace needs to be added to the right.
STEP 9:
Connect the remaining two copper domes to the necklace, one to the crystal on the left and the other to the crystal on the right.
STEP 10:
Connect two brown pearls to the left and then two brown pearls to the right. Then connect a crystal to the left and another to the right.
STEP 11:
Using a 6mm jump ring, connect the left side of the necklace to the silver chain. Add the black chain as well. Attach the bottom loop of a black pearl. Repeat for the right side of the necklace.
STEP 12:
Attach a 6mm jump ring to the top of the black pearl on the left and then a crystal. Repeat for the right side. Then, attach the following sequence to the left side of the necklace: two brown pearls, two crystals, one brown pearl and then three crystals. Remember that the wire caps should be at the top of each. Repeat on the right side.
STEP 13:
Finish the necklace by using a 4mm jump ring to attach the toggle part of the clasp to the left side. Repeat on the right side with the circle part of the clasp.
