Basic Glass Art Supplies

Author: Spotted Canary

Glass Art is a fun and unique hobby that is great for crafters young and old. As with any other hobby, there are a few basic Glass Art that you will need to get started.

As a beginner, you may want to purchase a kit like those made by Dimensions .  Such kits include supplies and step-by-step instructions.

You should wash your glass in water mixed with a little dishwashing liquid, rinse and let it air dry. Gently polish away any water marks with a soft cloth.  You will also want to have aluminum foil, paper towels, cotton swabs, a cup of water, straight pins and toothpicks on hand.  Check out Basic Glass Art Techniques  for tips and tricks to use these extra supplies.

In your kit, the first thing you’ll notice is that it’s REAL glass, and that the printed lines on the glass are raised. This is an important distinction because when you apply the liquid stains, they won’t run into other areas.

Begin by opening your first pot of stain. Stir it with a toothpick then apply the stain as follows:

1. Squeeze the applicator
2. Insert it in the stain
3. Release to draw up some stain
4. Apply it to your glass

You can use the tip of the applicator to help push the stain into the area, and you’ll soon be able to judge how much you need to apply. Be sure to cover the area with color, but you’ll notice as it dries that the color might be a little lighter in the middle of the areas and darker toward the edges. That gives glass art its artisan appeal and keeps it from looking too flat.

With these basic Glass Art supplies on hand you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how simple it is to create beautiful finished projects!
