I like to mix it up. Mix up my favorite hobbies, that is! Check out this album cover that I made—I created a pattern, sewed it, includes a completed needlepoint as a centerpiece, and of course a staple in most things I make, scrapbooking supplies. I enjoy creating a lot of different things, and this represents a few of them. I would love to see the things you create when you mix up your hobbies too!
Instructions
STEP 1:
For this album cover I made my own “pattern”. It was simple to do and by using chalk, chalkboard type, I am able to write and rewrite on fabric or felt in this case. Using chalk is a great way to sketch and “erase” or brush away changes on textiles. Also, felt is very inexpensive and forgiving to sew on, so if you are a beginner sewer, it is a great medium to start with!
STEP 2:
Cut felt 12 inches longer than the album (laid flat), and four inches taller.
STEP 3:
Lay album in center of felt and draw a line around it with chalk.
STEP 4:
Fold and pin felt into place and stitch around edges.
STEP 5:
Then, fold inside flaps in and stitch them to create pockets for the album to slide into.
STEP 6:
Cut a mat out of mat board to frame the needlepoint.
STEP 7:
Cover mat with patterned paper.
STEP 8:
Adhere needlepoint to paper and then adhere mat on top.
STEP 9:
Adhere matted needlepoint to the album. I used hot glue.
STEP 10:
Add title and embellishments with die cuts and stickers to create your title and further enhance the theme of your needlepoint centerpiece.
STEP 11:
Tip for Success: The best tip I can give is to try to not limit yourself. Do what you can to free your mind and eliminate limits on things. Like, if you quilt and you scrapbook, put the two together and see what you come up with. If you scrapbook and are afraid of interior design, think on how to bring your ‘on the page’ designs to the walls. Eliminate the limits, and unleash your creativity!
