Creating a layered diorama from your own hand painted paint by number painting will give you twice the pleasure. You will have the fun of doing the painting and then the fun of putting together the diorama! Using a shadowbox makes this painted pansy come to life.
Instructions
STEP 1:
Complete the painting and allow it to dry. Scan the painting and print two copies.
STEP 2:
Decide what elements will be in the foreground and which will be in the background. The foreground items will have one to two layers added to the painting while the background items will be the painting itself. Use sharp pointed scissors and cut out the foreground elements. As you can see in the example, one whole butterfly was added and then a layer of just the upper wings was added, to give a three dimensional look.
STEP 3:
Use pop dots, cutting them as needed, to layer the pieces together. Continue layering until your composition looks natural and balanced.
STEP 4:
Add embellishments such as glitter and rhinestones. For a collage look, slip in other items such as photos, pressed flowers, artificial butterflies, actual ribbon, etc. You determine whether you want the painting to be the center of attraction or just a backdrop for a collage.
STEP 5:
For a finishing touch, punch corners from the scraps of the extra copies of the painting to use in the corners.
STEP 6:
Frame your work of art. For the clear acrylic frame, the painting was cut down to fit the frame and a small piece of clear packaging tape was used to secure each of the four sides. The frame will stand up on a table, could be leaned against an easel or could be hung on the wall.
