Use your needlepoint design to create a colorful chair cushion to enhance your home.
Instructions
STEP 1:
NOTE: Time completion: 3 hours + time for needlework completion
STEP 2:
Baste cording to needlework piece, aligning the cording with the edge of the stitched area. Make sure to overlap raw cording edges.
STEP 3:
Cut two lengths of ribbon. Determine placement of cushion ties and sew into place.
STEP 4:
Decide on the desired width of the cushion ruffle. Double that measurement and add about ¾ inch for hem allowance.
STEP 5:
Measure finished size of needlework piece. Double the inches and cut enough fabric lengths, with the above determined width, to make that number. Stitch them together to make a loop.
STEP 6:
Fold loop in half hot dog style and press. Stitch two basting seams along un-folded side, making sure to break the seam lengths up so the threads won’t break when gathering. Gather fabric until it reaches the length of the finished needlework piece.
STEP 7:
Baste the ruffle to the needlework piece.
STEP 8:
Cut a piece of fabric the size of the finished needlework piece plus ¾ inch on each side. Stitch to the piece, easing in excess fabric as needed (the excess fabric is for the foam insert) and leaving an opening in between the cushion ties. Turn piece to right sides out.
STEP 9:
Insert foam and hand stitch opening closed. Press piece if needed. Use a pattern of fabric that has most of your needlework’s colors in it. This will insure the project looks both pretty and professionally done.
