Hop on over to meet Nibbles, a warm and fuzzy needle felted Easter bunny. With this bunny tutorial, create this precious pet as a spring centerpiece in just few hours. Cheerful pre-made 100% wool flowers are a snap to embellish this fun felt rabbit project.
Follow the instructions included with the Felting Needles and Foam block. Use a knife to cut a small 1” x 3” block from the foam block.
Iron the wool felt so the pieces lay flat. Print and cut out the pattern pieces. Cut out the five pieces of wool felt. Mark the eye and inner ears on the appropriate pieces.
Place one ear over the foam block. Stretch a 1” piece of pink roving over the outlined center of each ear. Use the felting needle to push the roving into the center of the ear. Pinch a single gather in lower edge of the ear and secure the gather by felting in place. Complete the remaining ear in the same manner.
Roll a piece of pink roving into a 3/8” ball and a piece of black roving into a 1/4 “ ball. Place the pink ball over the mark for the right eye and felt in place. Add a pupil by positioning the black ball on top of the pink eye and felt in place. Make a 1/16” ball with white roving. Place it in the upper section of the black pupil and felt in place. Repeat the eye on the left side.
Align right and left rabbit sides with eyes to the outside. Secure in place with pins. Use the needle to felt a 1/4” wide curved seam along the back curve and head starting at the bottom of the tail and ending at the bottom of the front. Carefully open the rabbit body. Reinforce any seam areas with white roving as needed.
Position the ears on each side of the head as indicated on the template. Place the small foam block inside the head. Felt the gathered edge of the ear securely in place. A small amount of white roving may be felted over the area where the ear is secured.
Make a nose by rolling pink roving into a 3/8” ball. Pull one side of the ball to a point. With the small block inside the head, position the nose and felt in place.
Roll white roving into 3 – 3/4 “balls for the left and right cheeks and the chin. Felt in place.
Make a tail by rolling a 3 inch piece of white roving into a 1 1/2 “ball. Center the tail 1/4” from the bottom edge of the back side of the rabbit. Place the large foam block inside the rabbit and felt the edge of the ball in place.
Use a pencil to lightly and randomly sketch 5 leaves around the neck. Shape a flattened piece of Olive roving into a leaf shape and felt in place.
Position wool felt flowers around the neck and along the back right and left sides using pins to hold them in place. Attach the flowers to the body by felting in position.
Stuff the head and body with a minimal amount of polyester fiberfill taking care not to over-stuff.
