With two dish towels, some ribbon and an hour of time you can sew this adorable and functional apron. Add a Felt Works flower and the cuteness factor goes way up.
Instructions
STEP 1:
Wash and iron dish towels. Use sizing to give towels some stiffness.
STEP 2:
Choose towel to be center section. Make casing for neck tie by folding one short side down 1.25 inches, pinning in place and then machine stitching to secure.
STEP 3:
Fold second towel in half hamburger style so that it measures 13 x 18 inches. Cut along fold line using pinking shears. These two 13 x 18 inch pieces are the apron sides. Zig zag stitch along raw edges to prevent fraying.
STEP 4:
Pin side pieces to center section, keeping bottom finished edges flush and right sides together. Machine stitch to secure.
STEP 5:
Press seams open, easing the top of the center section’s seam into a fold so that it lays flat (see photo). Machine stitch to secure.
STEP 6:
Cut approx 125 inches of ribbon for waist tie. Center ribbon on center of apron, keeping top ribbon edge flush with top edges of the apron’s side pieces. Pin in place and then machine stitch along both edges to secure.
STEP 7:
Thread remaining ribbon length through casing using safety pin for leverage. Slide ribbon in casing to end up with even lengths on both sides of apron top. Find center of apron top and mark with a pin. Machine stitch ribbon through both layers of the casing to keep ribbon from pulling out.
STEP 8:
Finish ribbon ends to prevent raveling.
STEP 9:
Secure flower embellishment with large safety pin (be sure to remove flower before washing).
