One of the easiest techniques in digital scrapbooking is to create your own digital textured cardstock.

One of the easiest techniques in digital scrapbooking is to create your own digital textured cardstock. With just a few quick steps you can make paper that looks as though it is beautifully textured to match any project or photograph! The following tutorial was created in Adobe Photoshop Elements.

  • Open a new file that is 300 DPI and 12 x 12 inches. 300 DPI is a standard size in digital scrapbooking and will give you a high quality print of your finished project.
  • Choose a color and use the paint bucket tool to flood fill your page. If you already have a photograph or other element that you plan to scrapbook, use the eye dropper tool to custom select a color from that element for your cardstock. First click the eye dropper icon, then click on the spot in your photograph that you want to pull color from. Note that photographic colors are made up of lots of tiny pixels, so you may want to zoom in so that you select just the right pixel, or just keep clicking around the area until you like the color that you select. You have now grabbed that color; use the paint bucket to fill your cardstock page!
  • From the Filter menu select Texture and then Texturizer. You can create your textured cardstock with any range of selections. I created mine with a canvas texture, scaling of 100%, relief of 4 and light from the top right. Play around with all of the options your software offers; the choices are endless!

Follow these few quick steps to create custom textured cardstock for your next digital scrapbooking project.
