A Spotted Canary Project by CMScanlon

6 May 2009

Create a unique bookmark out of a large bottle cap. Or string the finished charm onto cording to create a one-of-a-kind necklace.

Instructions

STEP 1:

Use a ⅛ inch hole punch to make a hole in the edge of the bottle cap.

STEP 2:

Use the circle cutter to cut a circle of the old book page to fit in the bottom of the bottle. Glue in place.

STEP 3:

Punch a 1 ½ inch circle from patterned paper and adhere over top of the book page.

STEP 4:

Stamp the image on a scrap piece of the patterned paper and punch out silhouette using the 1 3/8 inch punch. Adhere over top of the patterned paper in the bottle cap.

STEP 5:

Place approximately 2 teaspoons of Ultra Thick Embossing Powder (UTEE) in the bottle cap and place in a frying pan lined with tinfoil. Turn on burner of stove and watch for the UTEE to melt. When almost melted turn off heat and leave on burner. When the UTEE is completely melted remove from the stove and allow to cool.

STEP 6:

If you have any bubbles in the hardened UTEE, use your heat gun to re-heat the UTEE until they rise to the surface and all are gone.

STEP 7:

Insert jump ring in hole at the top of the bottle cap and close. Add chandelier charm and another jump ring.

STEP 8:

Tie twine to last jump ring and add three beads to twine. Tie a knot just after the end of the beads so they will stay in that position. Add a decorative ribbon if desired.

STEP 9:

Add beads to the other end of the twine, securing in place with two knots and your book thong is ready to use!
