It's late in the evening. The kids are finally sleeping. Your spouse is watching TV—a program you've seen several times before. Ah, you think, I'll just get out my pencil by number project and enjoy the peace and quiet. You get it off the shelf and sit down to relax and unwind from a busy day. What's this? Someone took the light green pencil! How am I going to do this now? Well, you still can. With a few techniques and some color knowledge, you'll be blending colored pencils to create the ones you want in no time.
By looking at this color wheel image, you can see the three primary colors: red, yellow, and blue. The secondary colors are orange, green, and purple. You create them by combining two of the primary colors. You can then create the colors in between. For example, if you need orange but don't have that color pencil, combine red and yellow. It's that easy!
Even subtle shades can be obtained with simple pencil colors. You can even vary the shade by changing which color you put down first. Try it out!

Try out these techniques on your next pencil-by-number project. Blending colored pencils will help you create a look all your own!
